What To Expect

Make the most of your time with us.

South-West Evangelical Church is full of people who are new to Australia, new to Sydney, new to church, and new to Christianity.

Our church welcomes all people from all backgrounds, recognising that none of us are perfect and all of us need to know the love and forgiveness of Jesus.

We desire to make coming to church an easy and stress-free experience.

Parking

There is ample parking on Morgan Street outside the church.

Public Transport

You can catch the train to Kingsgrove Station (T2 Airport line). From the station, walk up Kingsgrove Rd (heading south) and then turn right in to Morgan Street. We are 50 metres from Kingsgrove Road. Alternatively, if you want to catch a bus, bus route 493 (Roselands – Rockdale) goes past our church and will drop you a few houses down.

When You Enter

When you enter our front gate someone will greet you and write you a name tag. If you're new or visiting you're welcome to receive a free coffee from our friendly volunteers at the coffee machine. You may enter the main church building whenever you like or choose to stay in the courtyard until the service begins.

During the Service

When you enter the main church building you may sit wherever you like. There are no reserved seats.

Our formal time together lasts about 90 minutes and you're welcome to participate as little or as much as you like. It starts with songs played by our musicians (usually 2-3) followed by a quiet time to think to ourselves about how our week has been. This is then followed by another song. A short time of announcements follows after that where you'll hear about everything that's going on in the life of our church. The kids will then be invited to come and sit up the front to hear a talk (usually a video, but sometimes delivered in person). If you are new or visiting with children, there is no obligation for you to come and sit up the front with your children. Do whatever makes you feel comfortable. You'll then have a brief opportunity to meet those sitting around you. A time of prayer comes after this where a member of our church will read out of a prayer on behalf of everyone. We then read a book of the Bible followed by a 25-30 minute talk about what that particular part of the Bible is saying. This is then followed by one final song.

After the Service

After our formal time together you are free to leave but we certainly encourage you to stay and meet people and learn more about our community.

During the Week

We have a number of events running throughout the week including Community Groups.

All of our leaders are "safe ministry" checked

What does 'evangelical' mean? The word evangelical means Bible-based and Gospel-centred. South-West Evangelical Church has been, and will always be committed to teaching and declaring God's word, and telling people the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ. [Also refer to our statement of beliefs]. Who are we support and work with? We are non-demoninational meaning we are independent. But we are associated with FIEC.

Our main chapel is accessible for wheelchairs via a ramp. We are currently in the process of installing an accessible toilet. Our church building and hall are wheelchair and pram friendly. There's a drop off parking area in Wild Street next to the church building. We also provide large print bible readings and outlines.

We have a crying room for nursing mothers and parents with young children.

We can provide large print Bibles and outlines upon request. [TODO: Buy large print Bibles.]

Definitely not. You are welcome to come along just to have a look or to ask the tough questions. But we'd like you to know none of us is perfect and we were all new to church once. We come from all sorts of different backgrounds and have experienced different degrees of brokenness. We continue coming because Jesus offers forgiveness to everyone, the truth stands up to scrutiny and is relevant to our lives, and we appreciate the community.
